My Fashion Story aka I am a pretentious douche
I saw this tag going around in Youtube and since it is a lame Sunday afternoon and I’m waiting for my groupmates to send me the poetry file I need to work on, I decided to do this to kill the time!
1. How old were you when fashion became an important part of you life?
- Fashion has always been important to me. Ever since I was a kid I have always dreamt of growing up to work in the fashion industry. I wore the most outlandish things because I thought they were stylish. I used to think fashion defined who I am. I always used to say that fashion is my life. So I guess that gives you guys an idea of what fashion was and still is to me.
2. Who or what inspired you to love fashion?
- I have no idea. I was so so so young when I got into fashion so I don’t really remember that pivotal event that made me fall in love with it. It’s odd because my Mom is very very simple. She used to wear jeans a shirt everywhere. She never used make-up or high heels. It annoyed me because the only time I could play around with make-up and heels was when I was in my Aunt’s house. I think my Grandmother on my Dad’s side is an influence because she enjoys wearing very flamboyant things. I used to say that I have never seen her repeat an outfit. Plus my relatives on my Dad’s side enjoy shopping a lot! I think they’ve influenced me a bit, but none of them are really as passionate about fashion, they just really put importance on looking good.
3. Whats your favorite clothing store or designer?
- Oh wow. I don’t pick favorites, really. I am not a girl who sticks to brands. I enjoy thrift shopping a lot! If I were to choose a designer or store that reflects my style I would probably say that for retail stores, definitely Topshop! I die everytime I enter their stores! I would wear everything there!!!! For designers I’d say Riccardo Tisci, Nicolas Ghesquiere, Zuhair Murad, Christopher Kane, Christopher Bailey, Christian Lacroix, the Valentino duo, Francesco Scognamiglio, Zac Posen… plus so much more!!!!
4. If you were forced to wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?
- Something comfortable, but still very fabulous. Something classic so that I won’t look crazy by the time I’m 50. Maybe black skinny jeans, a cream colored sheer blouse with lace (think Valentino Fall 2010) and nude pumps.
5. What is your fashion pet peeve?
- I’m not really sure what you mean by that, but what irks me most when it comes to fashion is the mentality that things will always look better on skinny people. It’s just a universal opinion everyone has because the industry engraved it in our brains.
6. What is the first thing you notice in a person’s outfit?
- Hm, depends on what really stands out. When it comes to guys, my eyes always go straight to the shoes they are wearing. It’s kind of a deal maker-or-breaker for me. On girls, my eyes go to the top, I suppose. Then I analyze her whole outfit! Hahaha!
7. What fashion trend has confused you?
- Fringe! I know I will be shunned by the fashion world for saying that. I just don’t get it. I don’t think looking like a cowgirl/boy will make you stylish. Also, those harem pants. A ton of trends confuse me, but I know that there are always those people who can work them. They’re probably just not for me.
8.Would you rather buy one designer item and use it for the rest of you life or by multiple things yearly from places like H&M, Forever 21, Rue 21, or Charlotte Russe?
-Definitely the multiple things! I believe in investing in designer bags, but that’s it. I think only the bags are an investment. If you buy designer shoes and clothes, they go out of season faster than you can say “Five thousand dollars down the drain”. If I had a high paying job, then yes I would purchase designer clothes, but for now I am sticking with that loot from H&M!
Okay I tag everyone who reads this.
